A company from Mos devises a punt with artificial intelligence

Dec 1, 2024

Mar Technologies 5.0, a company based in Mos, has conceived the innovative Mar Span project, which consists of the development of motorized and virtualized rafts to optimize mussel farming. This project is being carried out under the coordination of the Society for the Study of Maritime Resources (Soermar).

The core of Mar Span is the construction of a pilot raft equipped with a state-of-the-art system that includes:

  • Automation, sensorization and virtualization for precise control.
  • Use of renewable energies such as wind, solar and bioethanol, promoting sustainability.
  • Creation of an interactive virtual twin for comprehensive monitoring of the mussel life cycle.
  • Management of 500 ropes using an artificial intelligence algorithm, ensuring uniform growth and optimal exposure to phytoplankton.

The main objectives of the project are:

  • Achieve a productive improvement that ranges between 35% and 65%.
  • Achieve a reduction in the mussel’s reproductive cycle of between 15% and 25%.
  • To promote sustainability by reducing the number of trips to the rafts for control tasks by more than 70%.

Mar Span is part of the Tecnaval 2025 tractor project, which has been approved by the Perte Naval, and whose responsibility falls on Soermar. This company is made up of a technology centre and a foundation, and has the participation of 18 of the main small and medium-sized Spanish private shipyards, including some in Vigo.
